演劇ニュース

ロンドン・ウエストエンドの演劇情報を掲載しているウェブサイト「Whats on stage.com」が主催し、
観客などが選出する演劇賞2009年「WOS Awards」が2月に発表されています。

演出賞に選ばれたのは、「A Little Night Music」のトレバー・ナン(Trevor Nunn)。
「A Little Night Music」は、スティーヴン・ソンドハイム(Stephen Sondheim)作詞作曲で、
1973年にブロードウェイで初演されたミュージカル。
ウエストエンドでは、2008年11月よりトレバー・ナン演出でリバイバルされ、
このプロダクションは2009年12月にブロードウェイへも進出。
キャサリン・ゼタ＝ジョーンズ(Catherine Zeta-Jones)とアンジェラ・ランズベリー(Angela Lansbury)が出演し、
現在もブロードウェイのWalter Kerr Theatreで上演中。

演劇部門の男優賞に選ばれたのは、「ハムレット」のジュード・ロウ(Jude Law)。
この作品も、ウエストエンドで上演された後、ブロードウェイへも進出し
欧米で大ヒットを記録しています。
女優賞は「欲望という名の電車」のレイチェル・ワイズ(Rachel Weisz)で、
同作はベスト・リバイバル賞も受賞しています。
ベスト・ニュープレイは「エルサレム(Jerusalem)」。

ミュージカルでは、映画「プリシラ」の舞台版である
「Priscilla Queen of the Desert - The Musical」がニュー・ミュージカル賞を受賞。
男優賞は、2009年2月よりリバイバル上演された「オリバー！(Oliver!)」で
Fagin役を演じたローワン・アトキンソン(Rowan Atkinson)。
ローワン・アトキンソンは、「Mr.ビーン」でお馴染みのイギリスの喜劇人です。
女優賞は「Sister Act」のDeloris役を務めたパティーナ・ミーラー(Patina Miller)。

その他、ベスト・ウエストエンドショーには「ウィキッド(Wicked)」。
シアター・イベント賞にはイアン・マッケラン(Ian McKellen)と
パトリック・スチュワート(Patrick Stewart)が共演した「ゴドーを待ちながら(Waiting for Godot)」が選ばれています。
